David from Tamar Packaging runs in Exeter's Great West Run

2nd October 2015

When we heard about Tamar Packaging's David Helcoop's decision to run the Exeter Half Marathon in support of the Stroke Association, we were only too happy to support him and his wife Louise in their quest to raise funds for the charity.

David and Louise have run a number of marathons over the years and had already planned to take part in this one when David experienced first-hand, a work colleague suffering a stroke. At the time he had no idea his 47 year old colleague was having a stroke and work mates thought he had fainted. It was only when David was driving the colleague home did he think again and decide he wasn’t happy with his condition and detoured to the hospital. As they arrived in the A&E department his colleague experienced a very obvious stroke and was promptly dealt with by the professionals. Having witnessed this traumatic incident the decision was made to raise funds for the Stroke Association. As David said, “Not only can we raise money for this great charity, but we can raise awareness of this potentially life-changing condition at the same time. Although stroke is one of the UK's biggest killers and leading cause of adult disability, many people don't understand it or ever think it could happen to them. We’re all certainly far better informed at work now and would respond differently in future”.

David and Louise’s training began in earnest a few weeks ago with them out running three times a week, usually around seven miles. A couple of weeks before the event they will increase this to 10 miles each time.

Exeter's Great West Run will take place on 18th October taking in the centre of Exeter as well as some country lanes, At 9am on Sidwell street four time Olympian, Jo Pavey will start the race. Jo Pavey MBE is a British long-distance runner. She won the 10,000 m gold medal at the 2014 European Championships in Zürich, ten months after giving birth to her second child, to become the oldest female European champion in history at the age of 40 years and 325 days.

We wish David and Louise all the very best of luck on the day and if you would like to support them with a donation, please click on the link – www.virginmoneygiving.com/team/Tamarpackagingsolutions

We've been helping a local college out with material for their GCSE Art and Resistant Materials coursework for a few years now and when they contacted us recently to ask if we could continue to support them, we were only too happy to offer some graphical board.
